“Today, I edited the Winters, California Wikipedia website to include something very important to our family and wanted to share it here. (He was my father)
SISTER CITY: Almogia, Malaga, Spain ~ Michael Silvan Ruiz (1926-2006) was instrumental in connecting Winters, California to his ancestral area in Spain where CALLE WINTERS is embedded into a tall stone wall on the street named for Winters in their city. When Michael Ruiz clipped the Flag of Almogia to the ropes at Winters City Hall during a Youth Day Ceremony in May of 1991, it was testament to his love for Spain and for the small community where he was born and raised. The Winters Express article can be found in the May 21, 1991 edition. Cristóbal Torreblanca Sánchez, Mr. Ruiz’s cousin, is currently the mayor of Almogia, where Mr. Ruiz visited several time to visit the relatives in and around Malaga.”
