From Karl Mallard:

“My Mother Marie (Rodriguez) Mallard in 1931 running for the queen of Club Iberico in San Leandro, CA. Mom was the daughter of Spanish immigrants Antonio Rodriguez and Maria (Espinosa) Rodriguez. Maria left her home in Salobrena (Granada) with her parents Jose Espinosa andAntonia (Romero) Espinosa, sailing out of Cadiz aboard the Manuel Calvo and arriving at Ellis Island on Feb 12, 1911. Antonio left his home in Jete (Granada) and sailed to Hawaii to harvest sugar cane to pay his passage, eventually landing in San Francisco in 1911. Both my grandparents Antonio and Maria first settled in Fresno, CA and later moved to San Leandro, CA.”
