A brief history on Goya Foods

Making money from a few olives, olive oil and sardines? Did you know that Goya Foods started in a small storefront in Lower Manhattan, New York? Prudencio Unanue (1886-1976), left Burgos (Spain) for Puerto Rico, where he married Carolina Casal (originally from Galicia, Spain) and jumped from Puerto Rico to open his store in Manhattan. Then, in 1936, they decided to transform the import business into a great company of canned food. Today, Goya Foods is America’s largest Hispanic-owned food company. And people in Madrid or Barcelona are starting to see some canned black beans on the shelves of grocery stores… The round trip of Unanue!!!
