Many Spanish immigrants in the US were fervent supporters of the Spanish Republic that came under attack when General Franco and other military leaders staged a coup d’état in July, 1936. Memorabilia like this one are very commonly found among their personal effects. The pin was probably acquired by your grandmother at a pro-Republican rally that would have taken place between 1936 and 1939.
