“Most of the first Spaniards that came to Winters settled up in the hills between Winters and Vacaville, and some then gravitated more towards Vacaville and some gravitated towards Winters, because you could go either way. And so we have lots of relatives in Vacaville, in Winters and we share a heritage as far as our background, where we came from. In Winters, however, more Spanish immigrants really stayed in agriculture. And when you go into Vacaville, or you go to some of the other areas in California, they went into different occupations. But we really did gravitate and immerse ourselves in agriculture here – first as laborers and eventually as landowners and farmers.”
